AD Expectations and job security
Every school has three active goals set by its Athletic Director. How you do against them drives your job security: passing strengthens your standing, failing puts you at risk.
- Goal types include national and conference titles, beating rivals, statistical benchmarks, signing certain types of recruits, controlling recruiting territory, improving or maintaining facilities, reaching the Top 25 and sustaining a win rate.
- Firm vs. stretch goals. Some are firm expectations with real downside if missed. Others are stretch objectives where the reward for hitting them is much bigger than the penalty for missing.
- Standards rise with you. A bowl hopeful that starts winning conference titles will start expecting more.
- Some goals pay Dynasty Points — see the Dynasty Points guide.
School demeanor: how forgiving your AD is
| Demeanor | How the school reacts |
|---|---|
| Patient | Allows time for long-term development; won’t overreact to one missed goal. |
| Balanced | Steadier evaluation; overall trends matter more than a single result. |
| Impatient / Reactionary | Immediate expectations and a small margin for error. Missing a key goal can drop job security sharply, and meeting goals may not help much — to them, you’re doing your job. |
You can see a school’s expectation level and demeanor before you take the job. For a long rebuild, a patient school is the safer seat.
How the Coaching Carousel works
College Football 27 replaced job offers with expressing interest:
- 1
Check the two lists
Schools Interested in You shows openings where you’re on the shortlist. All Openings shows every job.
- 2
Scout the job
Before committing you can see the school’s top players and candidates, what happened to the previous coach, available Dynasty Points, the projected yearly Coach Point award, the Dynasty Blueprint, AD Expectations and My School grades.
- 3
Express interest in up to six jobs
Being high on a school’s shortlist gives you a strong chance — not a guarantee.
- 4
Be ready to go
If a school picks you when the week advances, you accept automatically. There’s no second decision.
- 5
Finish the season
You coach your current team through the season and change jobs after the National Championship, and you can start hiring staff for the new school in that window.
Coach Prestige: what schools look at
Coach Prestige was reworked to reflect results, with recent accomplishments weighted most: national titles, conference titles, awards and recent seasons. Getting fired, going winless or stacking poor seasons lowers it. Schools also still weigh your archetype, scheme, alma mater and recruiting pipelines when building their shortlist.
Hiring and keeping coordinators
| Rule | How it works |
|---|---|
| Cost | Coordinators cost Dynasty Points. Each has an expected value based on coach level and your Team Prestige. |
| Bidding | Offer up to 2x the expected value. Above expected raises interest; below lowers it. |
| Offers at once | Up to six offers per side of the ball — six OC and six DC offers. |
| Resolution | Offers resolve in order of how many Dynasty Points you offered. Once one accepts, the rest at that position are dropped. |
| No hire? | If you don’t hire one by the end of the carousel, one is assigned to you. |
| Free agents | Cost zero Dynasty Points, but are generally less experienced and less powerful. |
| Keeping one | Negotiate an extension during Conference Championship Week. |
| Replacing one | Fire during Conference Championship Week, hire replacements during Bowl Season. |
The August 6 update added Archetype, Prestige, Pipeline and Level columns to the coordinator hiring screen and fixed issues making offers to six coordinators.
Coach Points and abilities
- Every job pays 0–25 Coach Points per season. Your current school can extend you and raise that payout up to 30% beyond what other schools can offer.
- Ability costs scale by tier. In elite archetypes like Elite Recruiter, Scheme Guru and Master Motivator, Tier 1 abilities cost 25 Coach Points and Tier 4 cost 40. Kicker and punter abilities cost half.
- Two new archetypes: Visionary (from Madden NFL 27 pre-orders or Franchise coach creation) and Rainmaker (MVP+ members).
- Coach XP speed (July 16 update): Career 1.0x, Simulation 1.25x or Casual 1.5x. The commissioner sets it in online dynasties.
- Paid progression is gone. EA removed paid progression from Dynasty and Road to Glory shortly after launch.
Keep your coaching career in one place
A long dynasty can mean three or four jobs. CFB Clipboard keeps your coach’s career across every school — records, titles and seasons at each stop — so a job change doesn’t split your history in two. See how to track a CFB 27 dynasty.
